First Place, Fall Sunset, Jeanette Wyckoff-bio

About the Artist

Jeanette discovered art in high school, taking classes at the “old” Montgomery Blair in Silver Spring, Maryland by starting with oil pastels. She took a summer class at the Corcoran School in DC with well known artist Jack Permutter. Seeming to please others with the few works that she had completed, Jeanette majored in art at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida. Realizing that it would be very difficult to make a living selling art work, Jeanette ended up working for Marriott International in Food and Beverage as a creative outlet for over 30 years. She did occasionally go back to my painting, mostly as a stress reliever. She took several classes in oils with Guy Fairlamb in DC on the advice of other artists who had been attending his classes for quite a long time. When she lived in Richmond, Virginia, she took two seminars of watercolor classes at the School associated with the Virginia Museum of Art. In August of 2008, she entered four paintings for the art barn display at the Montgomery County Fair and received four ribbons. And in October she had two entries accepted for the annual juried show at the Ocean City Arts Center in New Jersey. In April of this year, the watercolor "Fall Thicket" was awarded an honorable mention for the juried Ocean City Fine Arts League annual show. Jeanette's work is frequently on display at the Portabello's American Cafe in Arlington, Virginia
